8 Reasons to Workout That have NOTHING to Do With Weight Loss

Most of us have said it, right?
‘I’m going to workout because I want to loose weight” or “I’ll start exercising to loose weight”  but most of us don’t even think about the so many other benefits to regular exercise.

But there are countless reasons why we should exercise, but here is a short and sweet on these impressive ways that exercise can keep you in the best possible shape:

1) You’ll have MORE energy

You may feel too tired to exercise, and yes, working out does require energy, but regular exercise can actually make you feel more energized throughout the day. After following your exercise routine for a while, your heart and lungs won’t need to work as hard to function. This can give you more energy to get you through your day.

2) Increase Your Confidence

While exercise can improve your appearance, and that can improve confidence, believe it or not, there is more to it than simply cosmetics! Exercise can also help you to FEEL more accomplished.  Even if you don’t see immediate results in your body (and you probably will not!), your efforts can make you feel better—and a bit of confidence can go a long way.

3) Improve Your Mood

Maybe you’ve heard the term “runner’s high” and immediately thought about how much you hate running?  Well, you’re in luck!  Exercise in general (not just running!) releases chemicals called endorphins which make you feel good!  These endorphins then interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins trigger a positive feeling in the body, which is why we often feel so relaxed happy after a great workout!

4) Improve Your Memory

When you exercise, you increase your blood pressure and blood flow throughout the body– which of course, includes your brain.  The hippocampus, a part of the brain critical for learning and memory, is highly active during exercise.  When this part of the brain revs up, research shows that our cognitive function improves.  So if you want to more energy — take a quick walk around the block!

5) Improve Your Overall Health

Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance.  It helps to lower blood pressure and reduce your risk for type II diabetes.  By delivering more oxygen and nutrients to your tissues, exercise helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently.

6) Better Sleep

According to the National  National Sleep Foundation  regular exercise can help you sleep better.  The more you exercise, and it becomes a habit, the workouts seem to start muting a your stress response.  By lowering your body’s stress response, you’ll be able to fall asleep faster and have better quality sleep.

7) Controls Weight

Physical activity increases the number of calories your body uses for energy. Evidence shows the only way to maintain weight loss is to be engaged in regular physical activity.  By increasing your muscle mass, you increase your metabolism. When you replace fat with muscle, your body burns more calories at rest.

8) Reduce Stress

We all have stress in our lives.  The endorphins released during exercise are natural stress-fighters, but getting yourself into an exercise routine helps get your mind off the things stressing you out.

Exercise for life!

Yes, it can be challenging to maintain a daily fitness routine.  It takes commitment and some time management skills, but the benefits are worth EVERY  moment you spend on it. From controlling your weight to disease prevention, exercise is a natural and proven wellness strategy.
